The day was quiet and refreshing. The air had a nice scent to it, the smell singular to crisp winter mornings. There was a fine layer of snow on the pasture and the livestock were all covered in funny looking pelts that the two-legs had made. There wasn't even a breeze to stir up the white flakes into motion, so everything from the cloudless sky to the lifeless ground was still. It was the kind of day that cheered Winterstar up, that made a true smile break through all the emotional barriers that she had set up around her. She never let herself frown, of course, but it was nice when her kind grin was real, not just a protective layer to hide her true feelings.
So she sat still, smiling. She had been outside since before sunrise but, instead of going all the way back to camp, she'd leaped onto the fencepost, so close, and watched the leaf-bare day begin. If her Clan got worried or wanted her, all they would need would be a quick look around, maybe a sniff or two, and they'd find her. So, without any hesitation, she let herself sit and watch her surroundings come to life.

Larkwing's celery green optics pointed out towards the sun. Seeing a movement out of the corner of his eyes, he turned, gazing at the other cat on the fence post. Ah yes, it was Winterstar. She looked different from the back. Larkwing had a great respect for the new leader. Jaystar had passed away many weeks ago, but Winterstar was promising, and adapting well to the thought of leading a clan.
Good day, Winterstar. He meowed amiably, calmly leaping up onto a fence post beside her, turning his dark gray and brown striped head to look at her. It is a rather nice day for leafbare, don't you think?

The ginger warrior padded into camp, spotting only a couple of cats: Larkwing and the leader, Winterstar. Personally, Flashclaw preferred Winterstar to Jaystar as a leader; she was more easygoing; but that didn't mean he didn't like Jaystar. The former leader had passed away a couple moons ago, but the Clan still remembered him and respected him. The tom wondered if Jaystar had given Winterstar one of her nine lives. Probably. He dropped the rather plump prey onto the not-so-meager pile; because of the weather the past few days all the prey had left their burrows, and all the warriors had caught them. Flashclaw had gotten a good catch; two mice and a vole. They weren't even that scrawny. He padded towards his Clanmate and leader, who were by the edge of the camp, on the fencepost. Flashclaw dipped his head respectfully towards Winterstar, nodding at Larkwing. Hello... He'd heard Larkwing's comment and chuckled. These past few days have been nice and warm....we've gotten lucky.

"Hopefully the weather will last. Look at the cloud-free sky," said Winterstar, her smile leaking into her tone. It was such a nice day, and already mice and rabbits were poking their little muzzles up from burrows. Life was coming into her view, out of the depths of winter burrows. Hunting was important, and she nodded, expression full of thanks and warmth, to Flashclaw. It was so good to be happy after a moon of depression, but she would never say that to her warriors. That kind of thing was better inside. Besides, what was the point of letting other people know? Sadness was infectious, and why make it spread? But so was happiness, a different story all together. She looked up as a bird shrieked its "good morning" in the sky.

Hello Flashclaw. Larkwing meowed pleasantly. He nodded calmly at Flashclaw's remark. Yes I hope it stays this way...The woodland prey is coming out of it's den's to collect nuts for hibernation and that means more food for all of us... Larkwing knew how hard leafbare could be on a clan, and the elegant tom was greatful for the warm weather. We are very lucky, wouldn't you say, Winterstar?
OOC: I wrote a reply to this earlier but my comp froze so it didn't post. Gurr.

"We should make sure to get prey while we can," Winterstar meowed, throwing in some practical logic. The day was wonderful, stunningly beautiful, but if the Clan only admired the weather, no benefits would come. Food was just as important to enjoy as warmth. I should head back and make a hunting party, the responsible leader thought. She looked at Larkwing and Flashclaw, and realized that her plan, though fine in its own respect, was pointless - she could just take the two warriors hunting first. Then, when the returned, she would ask her deputy to take a patrol.
"Would you to like to join me in a hunt for the Clan?"

Flashclaw nodded. I'd like that, Winterstar. He sat up, licking his paw and rubbing it on his muzzle. As he finished, waiting for Larkwing's response, he raised his tail in greeting at a denmate who was just walking by.
OOC/not too much to respond to; so are they going to be mates? against the code?

OOC: Oops! Sorry guys :[[ I forgot about this thread.
IC:
Larkwing nodded at his sister and her mate. That would be fine. We might as well take advantage of the prey leaving their den's while the weather is warm. I have a feeling that cold times are ahead. It's just seems like certain hardships are ahead...The darkness is beginning to set in...I feel very strange... Larkwing shuddered. The easy going tom was usually so so calm, but now he felt anxious, and aprehensive. The tom could tell that things were not right. Leaf bare should not be so warm...

OOC/GLOBAL WARMING! =[ oh and he doesn't know he's her mate...remember? leaders aren't supposed to have mates =O
Flashclaw frowned. YOu're right, I feel it too. But i thought I was imagining it. He shrugged. Let's hope leaf-bare will be over as soon as possible. His tail twitched slightly in apprehension.
OOC2/ehh sucky =[

OOC: Maybe Flashclaw and Winterstar are so far just really good friends, but they both secretly like each other? We'll have to make a thread of them talking when they confess their love or somethin' XD Anyway, I stuck my brainstorm of their current relationship into my post... I'll modify anything that you don't like.
Winterstar nodded her head, her smile fading slightly from her face but not her eyes. "I wonder how warm this green-leaf will be," she pointed out, waving her tail to the surroundings. The thought worried her, but not enough to crush her good mood. She jumped down from the railing on soft paws, sinking a little into the wet snow when she landed. She pulled her feet out of the chilly whiteness and settled down next to her brother and friend. Of course she was happy; she was surrounded by the two cats she loved most in her Clan. She and her brother had almost always been on good terms, despite tiny sibling quarrels now and then. And she had Flashclaw had always hung out. Whenever she was down, for some reason he was the one she always wanted to talk to. She never did, but imagining the conversation would always cheer her up a little. She'd always had a nagging suspicion that she liked him in more than a trusted Clanmate kind of way, but she blocked it out most of the time.

OOC: If you're talking about spring, it's newleaf. Summer is greenleaf. Just clarifying.
IC: Larkwing nodded in agreement with both of the cats. Probably warming than usual. He meowed serenely, answering Winterstar's question. Ah well. But I do have a feeling that the best is not yet to come.

Flashclaw watched Winterstar leap down from the fence, and nodded. He didn't speak, though. Larkwing's words were a vague blur, something about the weather. Their current topic of discussion. But he wasn't listening. He was thinking about Winterstar. He respected her beyond compare, but in his mind he knew there was something more. More than respect. But he couldn't. She was Clan leader, for StarClan's sake. He was a trusted warrior of hers, he knew, but he was no more. He shook his head, clearing it, and tore his eyes away from his leader, pretending to listen to the conversation intently.
