"But kittypets can't be warriors!" Cinderpaw blurted out, "They don't have warrior blood!"; "Warrior blood." Cedarstar echoed with a sigh, "Enough of that has been spilled lately." The mighty tom grew silent, as if lost in memories.
This has been the first gathering Crowpaw had been to since joining ThunderClan. So far, all the clans were in denial, all except Dawnstar of course. Even if the rest of her clan disagreed with her decision, her word as leader was law.
Bristlestorm, ThunderClans deputy hauled himself up from where he had settled down. Shooting a defiant glare at Cedarstar, and he finally mewoed;
"What goes on between ShadowClan and ThunderClan is none of your buissness, not either of yours." Turning to gaze up at his leader Dawnstar for a moment as she gave him approval to speak, "WindClan and RiverClan are in peace for now, but as my leader, ThunderClans Loyal leader; we must have our territory extended." His amber eyes dropped onto the WindClan leader and then shifted onto Swishstar.
The crowd yowled wildly with protest, and few agreed to ThunderClans decision.
Even for Cindepaws remark on Crowpaw, which was another matter that came important, Bristlestorm couldn't say he felt the same disbelief as she did.
After all, he was the one who trained Crowpaw over the past fourteen sunrises. He was sure that the claws Crowpaw had, bore certain warrior blows.
When the crowd had died down, disturbing silence followed their uneasy murmurs and from the dark wave of cats; Mintpaw of Shadowclan yowled up on his own curiosity; "What about the kittypet?! There hasn't been a kittypet brought into a clan since Firestar was alive!"
Now the island seemed deserted al but the shifting shapes outlined like silhouettes against the full moon; over the enormous oak and it's bulk branches.
Yowls of agreements and protest rose up from the crowd of cats. Smallclaw, the ShadowClan deputy smirked and noticed only ThunderClan were the ones agreeing. Rolling his eyes with displasure he looked up to Darkstar; who nodded his approval of his own deputies speach.
Taking his time he stepped forwards and yowled, "Quiet down!", when the cats all had turned their attention onto Smallclaw, the leaders even were silent to hear what he had to say.
"In vision, the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams," he began; hearing a disgusted hiss from a few cats in his own clan while Sparrowstep muttered low under his breath, "Kittypets among a clan is like saying trees grow wings!" Shaking his head with fired up anger, he made his voice more direct. "Crowpaw has chosen where he wishes for his future to lie. We must all accept his choice.. Without question." He growled, narrowing his rays onto Cinderpaw while she stared to her paws with guilt.
ThunderClan murmured to themselves but had not come to a final decision whether or not they had fully accepted the warriors words.
Bristlestorm let out a small snort; "And you think your wise words can help here? He is a fine young apprentice, we don't need you to - " He was cut off from a warning snarl from Dawnstar who stepped forwards.
"Crowpaw is training well, our prey is plentiful and this gathering is over." she ended as she leaped down and began to sum up her clan and head to their territory.
Even the long legged Crowpaw slipped in with them, his black pelt blending in with the darkness and for a heartbeat Smallclaw thought he saw the apprentice glance at him with a grateful glint in the hazel rays; but as soon as it was there.. it was gone and he began to wonder if he had just imagined it.
The deputy bit back a sharp reply onto the mousebrained ThunderClan deputy; though what he had said was true. What ThunderClan had going on was none of ShadowClans buissness.. unless it came to the topic of territory then it became deadly serious.
Crowpaw would know just how hard it was to be a clan cat, and know about the warrior code and follow it wiht tooth and claw. Though through the description of Crowpaw, he knew his name had been OJ and as he was sure it used to be; they were kin and he never wanted to have to fight against such a strong young tom who was new to this home he'd come to.
There would be more battles, and more blood shed but that was life, in clan rivalry and that was part of growing up.
Smallclaw could see WindClan breaking up and disappearing towards the moor over the sloping ravine which leg to the tree bridge. Riverclan were just disapearing over after WindClan and now ThunderClan and ShadowClan were left in the clearing together, watching Dawnstar she glared at Darkstar and mumbled a few words which brought his leader to bare back his lips.
"We will have that territory, whether i have to take all your clans lives for it."
Heh, I'd like to see her try. he thought, while the last two clans left and the island was empty once more.
Crowpaw would definitely know sacrifice, after all..
It's the quiet before the storm...
