Frustration coursed through Shimmer's veins, wiping out the adrenaline that she so often craved. Any other time she would get back to fighting, but with his claws ready to sink into her throat, this would be a terrible idea. He wasn't as easily tricked as the many other cats Shimmer had fought with... He was cleverer even than some of the few cats who had defeated her. Shimmer wasn't the kind of cat who made her fun preying only on the weaker - she battled all equally: weak Clanner apprentices, nimble loners, deadly rogues. But this was different. Even in fighting him, she was aiming more to impress than to kill. Part of her wanted to confess her emotions to him, seek comfort and a flank to press her head against. But she was Shimmer, and that was not an acceptable thought. Pushing it from her head, she tried desperately to think of an accuse, her control slipping more and more every minute. Much longer of this and she would be a mewling kit, telling him all her heart's secrets. Quickly, she made up a story that fit her enough to be believable. With as much contempt as she could put into the words, she snarled, "Did you really think anyone can come to 'chat' with me and live? No, your petty wishes annoyed so much I decided to come and have some fun, show you how a true rogue spends their time."

Tangle narrowed his eyes until they were almost closed, ears flattened back. Bluffs, all bluffs. This cat thought she could get away with everything, but no. No, not with him. That would not work, especially because his claws were about to 'accidentally' slide into her throat. Now Tangle was not particularly evil, but his slight mood swings did have effects on...er...stupid cats. Most of them ended up being sprawled across the ground with eyes gazing sightlessly upwards. Shimmer had seemed like she actually had a brain at first, but now she was snarling in desperation. The contempt in her voice was masking something, something he couldn't reach, but she was obviously frustrated. He slid his claws out a millimeter so that they touched her fur, ready to push his paw down in case she got smart. Oh wait, that wouldn't happen.
Bringing his muzzle so close it almost touched hers, he whispered in a contemptuous snarl, If you want to live, you'll tell me the truth. Those stupid words about how a rogue lived were, he knew, exactly that. Just words. He knew exactly how a rogue lived, and it was not always about vengeance, which was exactly what she was talking about in a sense. Normal cats didn't just come and kill just because they were annoyed...usually they had a reason. Then again, he had committed that crime several times. [/color]

Within Shimmer's usually tightly controlled mind, a battle raged. Common sense was at the head of one army, backed up strongly by her desire to come out of this alive. The two combined were powerful, but they were facing a giant foe - Shimmer's pride. Admitting that she had wanted to see him again, just that one thing, would make her look so unbearably weak. But being dead, as the survival side argued, would make her look weaker. On the other side, she knew well enough not to trust him. He would probably just kill her anyway. But shouldn't she risk it, increase her chance of staying alive? Her pride was already wounded because she was basically helpless, and this only infuriated it more, made it stronger. But her desire not to die was an impulse, and a strong one, so she couldn't stop her mouth from blurting out the truth, or most of it: "I have to keep my own mind in check; I wanted to see you again, felt bad that I kicked you out. For that little thing, I have to kill you. I cannot allow a possible weakness to go on living. Happy now?" Her voice was a snarl, the spite and fury in it as a compromise to her pride, consoling it. Perhaps he would think she was strong for destroying anything that threatened her mind control, clever for getting to the root of the thing before it was a real issue. Why do I want to impress him anyway? She was sick at the thought of liking any cat, and here she was, trying not to hope he liked her back.

OOC; lol. I'm sorry too. For not being on =[ He laughed cruelly. She was hilarious. How does her mind work? he wondered, narrowing his eyes. He looked into her own smoky blue optics, but they were guarded. As usual. His claws dug in past her fur to prick her skin; hopefully they made dots of blood; enough to make her desperate but not so much that she'd feel dizzy with loss of blood or anything. Well, she was already desperate, seeing as she was actually spilling what she thought. A record; Tangle had never heard of Shimmer telling the whole truth before. He smiled inwardly, but kept his face cold and hard. She probably wasn't telling the whole truth now. But whatever. He could tell that this part was honest...he sighed.
Shimmer. Oh, Shimmer. You're quite stupid, to tell you the truth. Now he let a smile appear on his face, but a malicious one. I can tell you're desperate for me not to kill you. Of course you don't want to die. But think. If I'd wanted to kill you, I would have done so long, long ago. Before you had the chance to explain yourself. His ears twitched; he was amused. He could tell she was fighting herself. But for what? Underneath those cold eyes lay emotions, just like any other cat. The only thing was that no cat had ever seen them revealed before. He knew that right now one emotion was surfacing in her, but he couldn't quite reach it. Narrowing his eyes, he gazed at her, waiting for her response. If she had one.

"Do you think I'm that gullible? Get off of me if you truly don't have a mind to end my life." Her voice was cold and calm, as if she was explaining something obvious to someone she hated. Which was exactly the scenario at hand. Her fury at him and at herself grew with every passing moment, and though she had given up fighting there was no way she'd let him kill her. It wouldn't happen. She didn't let him know this; he thought she was desperate and she was, but she was not going to die. Somehow she knew, she was absolutely certain, that she wouldn't let him kill her, no matter how hard he tried. Perhaps she wouldn't be able to make him go limp in her jaws, but he would never bother her again. She could feel his claws sinking into her, and didn't tense her muscles, just waited.
OOC: Can she get him off her soon? I love Shimmer, and she's really strong, this is sort of a blow to her pride (and in turn, mine)

He sighed and rolled his eyes. What's the point, anyways? I know I'm not going to kill her. Why not let the little coward just run off? He sunk his claws into her fur one more time as if he was about to dig them into her throat, then released, tail running against the ground as he slunk off of her. His tail pointed towards her territory, and he snarled, Out. Before I really do kill you. His usually wild but now angry orange eyes were dark, telling her that he really did mean his threat.

Shimmer hissed back at him, a wordless snarl of pure rage. The anger showed in her smoky-sky eyes, flames of hatred flickering in the gray-blue beauty of her orbs. Inside her, well hidden, a battle was just as furious. One side of her, the logical, self-preserving side, was telling her firmly to leave. To just go, because he was strong and she wouldn't be able to keep control of herself for much longer. She knew this was true, and the argument was powerful. At the same time her pride, the only emotion she kept unchecked, surged in. It refused to let her go, tried to beat back her common sense by sheer force. Her other emotions agreed with her vanity, the emotions that had gotten her to come here in the first place, but they were so trampled and suppressed that it hardly mattered. Straight thinking won, a rare victory. On swift legs, she headed away from her enemy towards her own land.
