It hadn't been terribly difficult, finding the land that belonged to Tangle. His scent marked the place out quite clearly, a warning perhaps to weak cats who couldn't stand up to such a powerful tom. But Shimmer couldn't have cared less as she crossed the strong-smelling border and slowly climbed the slope, hoping to catch a whiff of fresher scent amidst the other criss-cross paths that Tangle had traveled. Her eyes were narrowed, almost as if a wind or rain was trying to get between her nearly closed lids. There was only the cold, and it wasn't biting badly, but she was too lost in her own thoughts and memories to pay attention to the weather. She had done this before, on a frozen, sleeting night not too long ago. Fang, her previous.. her previous... could she even say the word? Love, she forced it out, as if choking. She didn't love Tangle, it wasn't possible! But what did any of it matter? She was going to kill him, and that would be that.

Tangle's large shape sat on a flat rock near his small cave of a den, trying to soak up the little sun coming from the clouded sky. He closed his eyes, thinking about the encounter the day before. Shimmer. That beautiful she-cat had ejected him from her territory. He tasted the air, rolling over onto his back. Today was a cold day, yet a lazy one. He didn't feel like doing anything. But as he opened his jaws, a slightly familiar scent flooded his tongue. He sat up immediately, opening his eyes and instantly narrowing them. He looked around, seeing no cat. But he was certain he smelled her... I must be mistaken. After all, she had kicked him out of her territory the day before. Why would she come see him now? He settled down again, wrapping his tail around his paws, setting his chin on them. He sheathed and unsheathed his claws. Something was wrong...

Shimmer took in a deep breath, tasting the scent-filled air. Just upwind, she could suddenly smell tomcat. She angled herself, facing so that the light breeze made her ears twitch backwards, and moved toward the source of the odor. Her smoke blue eyes, keen and bright, caught sight of him almost immediately, and she crouched down. She didn't really care whether he saw her or not, but stealthy predatory habits automatically moved her into the stalking position. She crept forward on silent paws, feeling the strength and coordination in her body just like the day Fang had met death. This would be just as wonderful as that kill, though perhaps not as easy. She would take him out in the end, because she was fighting with vengeful anger and love, both powerful emotions, on her side. Suddenly she let the muscles in her hind legs snap back, bounding towards the other cat with long strides, fast as a hawk swooping down. Her fangs were out, flashing strangely opal against her pink nose and mouth. She took an easy leap, not caring for well-planned moods in her rage, and stretched out her claws to sink into his fur and flesh.

Tangle turned, looking slightly upwards as he heard a faint 'whoosh' sound in the air behind him. His violet-red eyes widened in surprise; it was Shimmer. The beautiful yet obviously deceitful she-cat he'd talked to the day before...or had tried to talk to. His battle instincts moved in and as sharp claws and teeth sank into his flank, he flipped over quick, hoping to send the smaller and hopefully weaker cat flying. He was lucky his ears had been pointed slightly back when she'd leaped at him, or else he would probably be dead or dying right now. As he flipped over, trying to balance himself on his pads while a weight was attempting to sink its claws into his side, he prayed to DreamClan, his only hope, that his quick attempt to send her into the weeds had worked. He felt pain as her sharp claws dug into him, waiting for her to release from the shock of him getting up so quickly.. OOC sort of doesn't make sense xD

OOC: in a tiny bit I'll give you a good opening to pin her down or something, but for now she's fighting well. Soon...
Shimmer was knocked off his back, into tall grasses, and as she landed she used the momentum to roll from her side onto her back, then to her other side, before springing agilely up once more. This time she took it slowly, her force attempt unsuccessful. She moved with lithe, strong muscles, pacing low to the ground. She circled towards him, her paws light and ready to move in case he went with the battle and attacked her first. Her mind was in a panicked state, and she harshly knocked away all the what-if-I-love-him thoughts that raced through her mind instead of fighting techniques. It was not at all good to be unfocused in such an important battle, and she felt the familiar adrenaline rush while she centered herself around the fight. She would deal with the emotions later; right now their place was in the back of her quick mind.

Tangle narrowed his eyes to slits as she paced back and forth, waiting for him to attack; or so it seemed. He didn't know what to do; he was still panting from the effort it had taken to throw her off of his back. Instead of leaping at her, as his instincts screamed at him to, he opened his jaws. In a soft voice dripping with suspicion, he mewed Shimmer. Why did you come here and attack me? As he spoke, he stepped closer, bounding lightly off of the flat boulder to approach her, making sure his claws were unsheathed ant that his ears were pointed towards the she-cat. Just in case. He tensed his muscles a bit, ready to attack--or for her to attack--at any time.

"Have you heard anything about me? The infamous Shimmer. Don't you know what I do for fun?" The untamed fury under her tone was quite uncharacteristic of the pretty she-cat, always in flawless control. Her claws flexed under her paws, wanted badly to sink into his fur. But under the insanely strong impulse to fight and kill was a softer desire - she wanted to respond kindly, talk to him. This only made her angrier, not only at herself but at Tangle, though it was by no means his fault. It was best to deal with these emotions quickly and cleanly, and she didn't wait for his response before attacking once more. She faked with a quick left movement, as if she was about to try to get around to that flank, and then leaped to the right, her jaws seeking out his neck and shoulder, the talons on a paw aiming to blind him or rip his ear. Rage boiled her blood alongside the adrenaline she so often craved. It was a wonderful feeling of power mixed with terrible fear - fear that she would never let show, but made everything all the more painful.

Tangle narrowed his eyes at her comment, keeping the violet-red orbs fixed on the she-cat. Idiot. he spat in his mind, watching her cafrefully. She seemed to be having an inner battle--good. It would distract her from the fight. He couldn't help wondering what she was thinking, though...he shook his head, daring to close his eyes for a moment. That was a mistake; a huge one at that. He opened his eyes just as she faked left, and he adjusted his body to face her. But she went around right, raking her claws alongside his lower neck and left shoulder. He hissed loudly as scarlet blood welled up around the dark tabby fur.
Tangle bent his head to lick the side of his neck for a moment, snapping it back up and turning, bunching up his muscles. He didn't dare waste time trying to see where she was landing; instead he lept, claws outstretched as he hoped he would land on her back. His eyes were slits now, narrowed in concentration.

Shimmer snarled and reached upwards with her claws as he leaped, forgetting for a second the difference in weights. She landed on her back, trapped as he jumped at her, and could only do one thing to defend herself. She did this - raised her paws, claws ready to slice his underbelly, but knew it was a lost cause. She had been too distracted to think, and the mistake she'd made was a terrible one. She planned a way to get out - relaxing, she let herself calm down and hoped he would take it as her giving up. She knew she'd lost, but she would never, never give up. But if she could talk him into a false sense of security and get his neck within biting distance... she started immediately, her sapphire eyes changing from terrible temper to a softer tone of defeat. In them, it was clear she was ready to answer any questions he had for real.

OOC//sorreh! I forgot =P
Tangle's dark eyes narrowed as the she-cat below him sliced her paw over his belly--claws unsheathed. Suddenly they widened--duh, she could kill him this way--he'd seen it happen. Or rather, made it happen. So he arched his back, pushing onto the ground to stand up tall as her claws raked down. He felt the viciously sharp talons go through his long belly fur, and he relaxed, sighing. Shimmer had a look of defeat on her face, and she relaxed too, sapphire eyes softening. He sighed, wondering if she was faking. Tangle was pretty smart, and had used this trick on unsuspecting cats before, getting them killed. So instead of backing off, he re-tensed his muscles and placed one paw on her throat, claws halfway out of their sheaths. His ears tilted back as his anger came rushing. You are a twisted cat. Why have you come to kill me? he spat in her face, bringing his muzzle down close to hers. Hopefully her paws were trapped since he had his own around her body; this way she couldn't claw his face. His violet-red optics were now brilliant slits, glinting in the dim sunlight as he waited for her answer--if it would come.
