With the wind in his favour, Firepaw bounded into the forest, slowing to catch any scent of prey. He opened his mouth to breathe in the warm scent of vole. Yes! The broad tom dropped expertly into the hunter's crouch and made his way silently though the undergrowth until his prey was in full view. He rocked back and forth, readying himself to pounce, and leapt onto his target. Swiftly catching the plump vole with his claws he finished off with a sharp bite to the neck.

Silkstar's silvery shape sat quietly in the shadows a few fox-lengths away from Firepaw, watching the ginger apprentice stalk a vole. She'd been following him for quite a while, and he was doing extremely well. She smiled, watching as he bit the small creature's throat, finishing it off. She was tempted to congratulate him, but this was an assessment. A final one at that--he'd probably become a warrior the next day, if he did well. She couldn't speak to him, at least not now. She was contemplating having him battle her as a last check-up before he became a warrior...but now her job was to follow him. He seemed to be done with the vole; she stood up, waiting for him to scrape dirt over it and carry on. She yawned, glancing up at the sun--it was still high up in the sky, though not directly overhead. She'd been following Firepaw for quite a while; hopefully he'd gather enough prey soon.

The ginger apprentice covered his prey with a layer of mulch and moved on. He continued to scent for prey and it wasn't long before he came across a scrawny mouse. It looked healthy, but it was a bit small. Regardless, Firepaw slid into the hunter's crouch and crept toward the mouse soundlessly. Within an instant he lept onto his prey and bit its neck. He looked at the mouse with a forlorn dismay. This certainly wasn't his prize catch, but it was still food for the clan so he felt obliged to catch it. He buried this one and padded on to a nearby glove of oaks where he expected to see squirrels.

Silkstar nodded as Firepaw caught yet another piece of prey--a mouse. She smiled; she was right. He'd make a great warrior. She made a note to herself to hold his ceremony the next day at sunhigh. She followed him, slinking between the bushes as he padded towards a cluster of oaks, a place where squirrels were also found.
OOC//not much to reply to.

OOC: Sorry about the last post, my muse was having a bad day.. >_<
Firepaw slithered through the grass stalking a red squirrel that was gathering bits of twig and moss. A strange task for a squirrel... he thought to himself as he kept a sharp eye in it. His curiosity overwhelmed his need for impressive prey, and he kept himself from pouncing on an easy kill. A bit longer and the squirrel finally bounced off toward a massive oak. Near the middle of the trunk was an opening small enough for a rodent to fit into. The squirrel scampered up the tree effortlessly and slipped into the hole. The amber tom waited for the squirrel to leave before he went to investigate. He climbed the tree and peered into the hole. Inside were little squeaking bundles of fur. He stayed there a minute and contemplated whether he should wait for the mother to come back for an simple kill, or leave the small family in peace. A frustrated grumble emitted from Firepaw's throat as he heaved himself onto the forest ground. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't bring himself to think of the squirrel and it's kits as prey. Thoroughly disappointed in himself, he sat a fox-length from the tree and stomped a paw to the ground. Silkstar probaly thinks that I'm a softy. He looked around trying to spot his leader's pelt. As he expected, she was hidden well and could not be seen from where he was.

OOC: I see. ;D
Anyways...
IC: Firepaw padded back to collect his prey. A plump vole and a mouse. It wasn't much, but it certainly was something. He fell into the hunter's crouch and began stalking a flittering sparrow that was a few fox-lengths from him, picking at the sprouting grass. With the greatest effort he heaved himself toward the bird and caught it midair as it left the ground. The ginger tom gave the final blow and placed it with the rest of his prey. He sat proudly as he looked over his prey. Never before had he caught so much in a single hunt.

She smiled as he sat, proudly surveying his catch. He'd make a magnificent warrior. Silkstar padded out of the bushes, eyes glittering in pride. Firepaw....great assessment. Your ceremony will be held tomorrow at sunhigh. She licked his head between his ears and looked down at the sharp young tom. Again, amazing job. I know this assessment was short, but I could tell from the start you'd do great. I've seen you in battle training recently, so there's no need for that. She turned and padded away towards camp.
OOC;;so sorry!! I've been busy with school
