OOC: thread for Mirrorpaw & Ambergaze.
Ambergaze stood at the edge of her den, the den of sickness and loss where many cats had died and many had cried out. Her tail flicked in angry jealously as she followed warriors with her eyes. They were taking out their precious apprentices to fight - oh weren't they just so special with their happy life and lack of worries. Warriors had no idea what responsibility was, or how to do anything other than what their leader said. Lemmings, one and all. Oh, if she'd been a warrior, she would have been independent but thoughtful, brave but clever. But no, that wasn't her planned lot in life. Instead of teaching a younger cat to fight, she had to show Mirrorpaw how to use poppyseeds to get some weak warrior to shut up and stop complaining. "Mirrorpaw!" she called, wondering where her apprentice was.
OOC: this'll be fun. Poor Mirrorpaw.

//>.:Mirrorpaw:.<\\
[/u] The white-chested tabby sat in a dip, between two bramble bushes, blue-green eyes scanning the area. Her small shape sat alone, besides for the rabbits and swallows scurrying about. She tilted her head and chuckled. The medicine cat apprentices' belly was growling in hunger, but there she was, sitting next to the fresh-kill pile, ignoring the smell that wafted from the assorted rodents and birds. Mirrorpaw turned and lowered her head, scanning the area. Maybe....that sparrow. It was not too plump, but it wasn't scrawny. The sunny weather had saved them; it had been beautiful and not too cold for the past few days. She dropped into a crouch, moving lightly among the heather. Eyes narrowed, ears twitching, she pounced, landing on top of the bird. Her claws slid out of their sheaths and dug into the animal's spine before it could react. Crack. She blinked--it had been forever since she had hunted a bird. She hadn't expected to catch it. She padded around until she decided to go back to camp. The young cat treaded slowly to the Clan's home, lost in thought, sparrow in her jaws, until her pelt brushed bramble. She squeezed through the camp entrance, found a soft spot to sit, and devoured the fresh-kill. She licked her lips and sat silently, striped tail wrapped around her white paws. Her thoughts drifted away to Oakpaw.... Suddenly a sharp voice pierced her ears, and she flicked them, annoyed. She turned her head, narrowing her eyes to see who it was who had called her name, and spotted Ambergaze, her sharp-tongued yet good-hearted mentor. Mirrorpaw sighed and bounded over to the medicine cat, mewing a soft Yes?[/center]

"What do you think you're doing, lounging around and daydreaming? It's a new day - and we're training." Ambergaze's sharp tongue softened a bit when she talked to her apprentice; she really liked Mirrorpaw and didn't mind her. Besides, she wasn't a warrior, so the sarcastic she-cat felt no jealousy. She didn't let her scowl slacken for a second, though, glaring at her apprentice before turning and heading into the den. She gave a quick flick of her tail so Mirrorpaw would know to follow.

Mirrorpaw dipped her head respectfully, but her eyes were shining and sparkling in amusement. She knew how her mentor felt about 'lazy warriors'. She followed her mentor, pushing through the brambles that guarded the den. So, what are we going to do? she asked, looking around the small cave.

"Scenerio training." Ambergaze had made it up on the spot, but it sounded good and there was even a way to back it up with learning. She wanted to do battle practice, but even that was probably going to be denied her - maybe tomorrow they would go over some defense moves before anyone could tell her not to. That would be nice, something warrior-like at long last. "Okay, so a warrior comes in, saying they feel sick. What do you ask? What do you do first?" Ambergaze paced a limping walk, holding her left foreleg up a little above the dirt ground. It didn't hurt, but she knew that walking on it too long would start its aching again. Stupid leg, it'd ruined all her dreams - she hated that leg so terribly much... She clenched her jaw, wishing that she hadn't hurt herself so long ago. But there was no point in wishing, it only made you sadder - so she cleared her thoughts and watched Mirrorpaw.

OOC//sorry, forgot...
Mirrorpaw c-ocked her head, narrowing her sea-colored eyes. They wandered around the den as she thought, building up the scenario in her head. Her optics landed on Ambergaze's injured foreleg, and the apprentice's heart went out to her mentor. The older she-cat seemed so...spiteful. Mirrorpaw would be too, if she'd been crippled like that. But she dared not say anything to her mentor--Ambergaze would explode at her. Besides, the light-furred she-cat looked more relaxed now, watching her apprentice. Mirrorpaw's ocean optics lit up as the obvious answer came to her. Er...I would ask them where they feel sick, and how it hurts and how much. She looked up at her mentor, ears twitching in nervousness. Ambergaze could be quite intimidating sometimes, and Mirrorpaw really didn't want to have said the wrong answer.

With a glint of humor in her yellow optics, Ambergaze limped up to Mirrorpaw, playing the part of the warrior. "My stomach hurts, it hurts badly. I feel like I'm going to cough up the most icky hairball ever. What is it? And my back leg hurts, too! It's hurts terribly!" She made the warrior sound like a complaining kit, whining but barely looking sick at all. Acting lively but unhappy, she looked imploringly at Mirrorpaw, not trying at all to get into the head of a warrior. Why would she want to pretend realistically to be one? It wasn't true, it would never be. Her limp proved it if nothing else did. Bitterness swept the humor out of her amber orbs, and she watched her apprentice, impatience very slowly taking over her features. If the younger cat was lucky, she'd get out her next sentence and reset the frustrated timer before the time was up.

Mirrorpaw smiled, then frowned, as her mentor whined 'like a warrior'. She seemed so bitter, just because of that leg. Mirrorpaw knew those things shouldn't get Ambergaze down like that, just like Mirrorpaw didn't let her medicine cat position interfere with her love with Oakpaw, even though it was against the warrior code. I mean, as long as no one knows, it's all good, right? Then her frown deepened as she wondered what Ambergaze would say if she knew about her romance. Her now-greenish orbs welled up with what felt like tears, and she tilted her head up to look at the stone ceiling, pleading them to go back wherever they went when they were off duty. If Ambergaze caught her about to cry, she would pester Mirrorpaw until she got the truth out of the young cat. Then what would happen?
Mirrorpaw blinked and shook her head vigorously. It was time to get back on task; enough thinking about useless things. She stared at her mentor, calling back her words from the back of her brain. Er... she mewed, blinking again. Where was her memory when she needed it? Then the ingformation came rushing back to her as she remembered a recent lesson. Her eyes lit up, and she mewed eagerly, Lay down. I'll give you either juniper berries, chervil, or watermint for your bellyache. If after a while, it still hasn't worked, I'll give you poppy seeds for the pain and leave you to rest. She looked up at her mentor, praying to DreamClan that her reply had been right.

"Okay, the bellyache goes away for a tiny bit, but just afterwards the warrior starts throwing up and their leg is getting swollen. I'll let you take another guess before you give them poppyseeds, but you shouldn't need to guess." Her tone was condescending, but it was nice to have something to focus on besides the frustration of having to be medicine cat. It was sort of nice to know how to heal, but Ambergaze missed the ability to choose her own destiny. She had to just go along with DreamClan's wishes like a puppet, lame and miserable. Both of which she still was. Mirrorpaw was lucky to be able to decide herself what would happen in her life, and though she chose the one thing Ambergaze wanted out of there was still a chance for her to be happy. If, that is, she could learn the stupid herbs that plagued Ambergaze's life.
OOC: I do have something in mind for the warrior, but I'm not telling you.. *evil grin*

OOC//I don't o.o Or maybe i do. Is confused.
Mirrorpaw sighed, brows crinkling in frustration. She ran her tongue over her teeth and twitched her tail and ears, a combination that happened automatically whenever she was confused or didn't know what to do. She couldn't glance at her mentor; the skin under her soft, thick leaf-bare fur reddened and warmed. Sometimes she wondered if she had taken the right path. It was just that she was so forgetful, and rarely remembered anything. Especially now that Oakpaw was in her life. She shook her head, wondering how he'd wandered into her thoughts yet again; she tried to focus on Ambergaze. Her eyes were wide in apprehension for what was to come, and she mewed softly, I'm sorry, Ambergaze. I don't know. She diverted her gaze from the medicine cat, blinking. She had been so distracted, she didn't even know the answer to her mentor's question. This should be a review, she told herself. But poor Mirrorpaw just couldn't remember.

Not know? It was so obvious! How many times had Ambergaze pointed out that the warrior's leg was swollen? Many. And the apprentice hadn't even talked about checking there. Eyes flashing with impatience and annoyance, the irritable medicine cat gave a hint with frustration outlined in her voice. "Why don't you see if there's any reason the warrior's leg is swollen?" Such a stupid apprentice, not even recognizing such a well-described case of an infection! All the signs had pointed to the warriors leg. Hurting, swollen... How her idiot of an apprentice would ever make any kind of medicine cat... Ambergaze took a deep breath, calming herself down. There was no reason to get over the top with her anger at her young apprentice. You could call it innocent ignorance, the state that Mirrorpaw was in. You could also call in irresponsible forgetfulness, but one was certainly less mean than the other. After getting her temper down a bit, Ambergaze turned back to Mirrorpaw.

OOC--that's what I thought it was xD I just wanted Ambergaze to be mad at her, so she'd be guilty of thinking of Oakpaw. Will reply later.
