The breeze moved swiftly through the trees as a small light brown tabby moved through the long grass. She scented the air before leaping silently onto a nearby log, her white paws scratching at the wood as she moved. Leafpaw sat silently and waited for her mentor to come. She loved hunting and today it was their task.

~+X.x Silkstar x.X+~
Silkstar padded silently through the heather, glancing around. Prey was everywhere--a strange thing. The fresh-kill pile had been low for at least two moons now. But now...a mouse here, a vole there, a sparrow overhead...this was good.
She arrived to where the young, white-pawed apprentice sat patiently, and sat down herself, wrapping her fluffy silver tail around her small, dainty paws.
Okay, Leafpaw. Let's start by you smelling out what kind of prey there is in this area.

The tabby apprentice dipped her head, parting her jaws and letting the scents of the heather around her fill her scent glands. 'Mice, Sparrows, Voles, Rabbits,' she meowed softly, taking carefully in each different scent that crossed her jaws. Leafpaw took a small gulp of air and scented the air again. 'Thats About All Right Now,' She meowed softly.
Leafpaw glanced at her mentor for a moment, the she-cat's bright green orbs scanning the area quickly before returning to the leader, the tip of her tail twitching slightly.

Silkstar's eyes shone with pride. That's right. Now, where is the closest rabbit? Her nose twitched slightly as she detected one herself. This stuff might be easy, but we haven't trained in a while, and I need to see where you are. Her tail waved slightly, casually.
Silkstar sat down, tall wrapped around her dainty paws, waiting for Leafpaw to sniff out the hare that was hiding in its burrow near a bush. Or the other one, behind the rock. Or that one...

Leafpaw nodded understandingly and scented the air again. Her ears twitched, slightly. 'Over there, just behind those stray rocks.' She pointed with her tail to a group of small rock, no more than one and a half fox lengths away. Leafpaw turned back to Silkstar, her white paws shuffling on the ground slightly.

Silkstar smiled and nodded. Now, you probably know what I'm about to ask you. She waved her tail towards the rocks, and waited for Leafpaw to stalk and pounce on the poor vole.

Leafpaw gave a smile, nodding softly. she leapt silently down from the log, stalking slowly forwards. The wind drifted past her as leafpaw's white paws barely scimmed the ground. She stopped not too far from the rocks and leapt forward, grabbing the rabbit in her claws before giving it a swift bite to the neck. Leafpaw lifted up the rabbit and turned, giving a small smile as she rejoined Silkstar.

Silkstar nodded. Good. Now, I have a challenge for you. Climb that tree, she mewed, pointing at a lone old, sturdy elm the cats called The Lone Tree. At the top, I have hidden something. The 'something' was a clump of berries. If you reach the top and come all the way back, you get first pick at the fresh-kill pile tonight. Her eyes twinkled. Remember, I'm watching you.

Leafpaw smiled, nodding. The tabby apprentice bounded down off the log again and padded over to the lone tree. Leafpaw looked up it for a moment before leaping onto one of the lower branches. She leapt at the tree again, this time her claws digging into the trunk as she moved up to the next branch. Leafpaw looked back over to Silkstar for a moment before continuing the climb, leaping from branch to branch until she reached the top. The light brown tabby she-cat looked down at the ground for a moment before looking around. She gave a purr as she spotted the berries in a rolled up leaf, sitting on a branch. Leafpaw bounded slowly over, grabbing the berries in her mouth before turning and slowly making her way back down the tree.
Leafpaw landed softly on the ground, her bright green eyes glowing with pride as she bounded slowly back over to Silkstar, shaking slightly from the climb. She bounded onto the fallen log again and dropped the berries at her mentor's paws. 'Are These The Surprise?' she asked softly, purring gently.

Silkstar craned her neck and watched her apprentice climb the tree, her claws leaving slight marks on the bark of the elm. The small holes where her claws had been now accompanied many others, of apprentices doing challenges, and warriors showing their apprentices how to climb, or even the frantic climbing of a cat to escape from some creature.
As Leafpaw made her way down the tree, the bundle of berries in her mouth, Silkstar nodded approvingly. Good! she called encouragingly. As Leafpaw dropped gracefully to the ground and dropped the berries at her mentor's feet, Silkstar nodded. Yes. Now, you take these to Deepriver, and maybe she'll give you a surprise. Don't tell her I gathered them, though. It's your credit--you found them. Her eyes sparkled, and she got up. Now. Let's get back to camp. Maybe this afternoon we'll do battle training.

The light brown tabby gave a bright perk of energy, nodding happily as she lept down, grabbing the berries. 'Thank You Silkstar!' she meowed happily, her voice muffled by the berries is her jaws as she moved through the grass back towards the camp, her tabby tail high with pride.

Silkstar nodded and slowly started to follow her apprentice, watching the prideful young cat stalk back to camp, tail pointing to the sky. She chuckled softly, and mewed, Leafpaw, you're sure amazing at hiding your emotions!

Leafpaw gave a soft purr, her eyes glowing with pride. 'Not,' she purred through the berries in her jaws.

Silkstar chuckled. Yeah. Exactly. Okay, hurry up! She was almost about to bump into the apprentice. But they carried on home until they reached the camp, Silkstar a bit chilled by the weather.
