Spiritfeather looked at the flowing brook. Her silvery gray face and shining blue looked at her from the water. She stared intently at her reflection. She blinked, her twin did to. She sighed and slightly taped the water at the center of her face. It slowly started to ripple making the image of herself warp. She looked up, away from the blue water and up to the sky. Fluffy, white clouds moved across the sky at a sluggish pace. She sighed once more and looked back at the water. Instead of looking at her watery mirror she began to lap it up.

Moonhawk padded up behind Spiritfeather, and for a moment she just sat and watched the she-cat drink from the brook. Finally, Moonhawk brought herself up next to the cat. She gave her a half smile. "Spiritfeather, why are you out on your own so late?" Moonhawk meowed gently, her voice not loud nor too quiet, making it seem just right, almost like an angel's voice may sound. She sat down, and let her tail wrap around her. She tapped it on the ground every few seconds.

Spiritfeather was startled by the new cats arrival but quickly relaxed again when she saw it was Moonhawk. She smiled at her fellow clan mate before beginning to speak. "I like to take walks alone around this time. Just to think and look back on the days events. It's just a habit I've had since I was an apprentice." Spiritfeather meowed in her quiet sweet voice, "And may I ask what you are doing tonight Moonhawk?" She asked politely looking at the cat with her calm blue eyes.

"To look up at the moon... That's why I got my name, remember? And besides, I like being at the water's edge when I look at the moon, so when I look down when my neck is sore, I see it there in the water too." Moonhawk explained, she narrowed her eyes and looked up into the moon, in which seemed to glisten. She matched it's reflection in the water, though the reflection danced with ripples and various beautiful colors. "I just love the moon... So fragile, and big. I really wonder what it is, too. Maybe it's the greatest warrior who ever lived. I'd like to know this someday. And when it's my turn to join StarClan, I'd feel alright to go, because then I could watch over all of BrookClan... It'd be great. Because sometimes, death can be better than life...."

Spiritfeather smiled at her clan mate. "I like the stars. There are so many yet each unique in its own way. Sometimes I wonder which Starclan warrior is which star." She meowed and looked up at the dark sky where the star were shining. "The night sky is a wondrous and mysterious thing." She continued more quietly. She closed her soft blue eyes and listened to the calm silence of the night.

"I agree..." Moonhawk meowed quietly, though she continued staring up at the moon. She then laid on her stomach, letting her paws dip into the water. She always had loved water. "Hey, you know that new cat Luna? She's nice, but she refused to take her apprentice name at her ceremony. But that's when I left. I hope Birchstar won't get mad with her. She's so innocent, and she doesn't really understand our ways yet. Like me and my mother, Nyra didn't at first."

"I was glad Birchstar let her in but I hope she didn't ruin it by making that move" Spiritfeather meowed looking down at Moonhawk. "She seems nice. I just want to find out more about her." She continued with a spark of curiosity in her blue eyes. She looked up at the stars each sparkling.

"As do I. We are very alike, Luna and I. I even had to change my name. From Coryn to Moonkit. I accepted, but my mother didn't like the idea one bit!" Moonhawk laughed, recalling how her mother protested, but she had accepted it. "And I understand how Birchstar let my mother keep her name, because she was a respectable elder, but an apprentice belittling Clan traditions... I don't know what could happen."

Spiritfeather nodded at the comment Moonhawk had made. She smiled at her clan mate before speaking again. "Sometimes I wander what it is like not being from a clan. It must be hard to be a loner yet you are free to do what you want. It must be boring to be a kittypet yet you have the safety of a home. These are the pros and cons of not belonging to a clan. What are pros and cons of being a clan cat?" She was started to space out a little.

Moonhawk thought for a couple moments about the question. "Well, sicne I've had a vantage point from a view of loner and Clan cat, that seemes easier to seek out. A pro of being a clan cat is that you have trustworthy cats around you, who can perform teamwork, and defend land much more easily than a loner or kittypet." Moonhawk meowed. She began licking her chest fur. "At least that's my opinion of it.

"That is true but what about the cons? There has to be a con for everything so what would it be for clan cats?" She meowed looking up to the stars. As if she was hoping they would answer her question.

"Betrayal... One cat betrays, the whole clan could go down, especially if the cat is in a high ranking, such as deputy." Moonhawk sighed. She didn't want to think about cons right now, especially with her worried about Luna! "I don't see any cats that would betray the clan, at least... I think..."

Spiritfeather snapped out of it when Moonhawk began to hesitate. "What do you think? Do you think someone will betray the clan?" Spiritfeather was curious and worried. She wanted to know what this cat knew or thought. Her ears began to strain so she could hear everything.

"You don't need to hear this. It's just nonsense.... Crazy. Just, pretend I never said anything..." Moonhawk stammered, looking down into the water, purposely keeping her eyes off Spiritfeather's face. Spiritfeather would just oppose, and think she was crazy..

"Come on were friends! I wont laugh just tell me please! I dont like secrets." She smiled while she said this but Moonhawk wasn't looking at her. She frowned wondering how to get her attention. Then she hit her paw in the river sending drops of water on herself and her friend. She began to laugh as if she was an apprentice.
